What We Do

Our Kiwanis club participates in a variety of projects throughout the year that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally and worldwide.  Additionally, we have speakers at our weekly meetings to explore topics of interest to the membership. We engage in a number of social activities to share experiences, talents and our collective interests. All represent great opportunities for service, friendships and personal growth.

Below are the projects and activities in which we are currently involved:

Projects

  • Arvada Day of Service
  • Arvada Wheat Ridge Service Ambassadors of Youth (AWRSAY) recognizes middle and high school students who have overcome an adversity in their life and provide a scholarship to a high school senor to Red Rocks Community College
  • Backpack program – members pack and distribute about 200 weekend meals for students at Little Elementary School. In conjunction with the Arvada Community Table’s Feeding the Future program
  • Salvation Army Bell Ringing
  • Colfax Marathon Water Station since 2006
  • Habitat for Humanity House Building
  • Habitat for Humanity Pumpkin Patch – members help sell pumpkins at Halloween with Interfaith Partners to to support Habitat for Humanity house builds
  • Highway Cleanup – members pick up trash along 64th Ave. between Ward Road and Indiana St. twice a year
  • Individual members deliver Meals on Wheels to local homebound seniors
  • Mother’s Milk Bank Diaper Drive each May
  • Postal Carrier Food Drive to benefit the Arvada Community Table food bank
  • Ralston House Pinwheel Garden supporting Child Abuse Prevention Month
  • Swanson Elementary Reading Program – members volunteer to support student’s advancement of their reading skills weekly during the school year
  • Sweet Dream in a Bag – members pack and help distribute special bags full of bedding items of need at Arvada Head Start
  • Write Stuff – members help pack and distribute school supplies to area schools each January

Service Leadership Programs

  • Key Club-Kiwanis clubs are supported in the local high schools
  • Terrific Kids student recognition program at Swanson Elementary School that promotes improved behavior, peer relationships, attendance, and/or schoolwork

Kiwanis Scholarship

  • AJ Kiwanis awards an annual scholarship to a local Key Club senior.
